Well the Fall weather is definitely here. The leaves are falling from all of the trees and it's getting darker earlier and earlier. Halloween is right around the corner, and next thing you know it'll be Thanksgiving, then Christmas and then the New Year. I'm already thinking about the New Year and what's in store for us here at P. L. Johnson Construction, Inc. There's going to be a lot of changes here at the company. More details will come later, but it's definitely going to be different. After experiencing all of the things that I experienced in the last few years, I have to change in order to make it a better company and to exceed in this business. So meanwhile, we'll keep on moving and doing the jobs that we've been accustom to doing.

Well I can say this for sure, that it's been a real challenging summer. A few more weeks and the summer will be officially over and we'll be heading into the Fall. For the most part, it's been a very busy and productive summer. I know I'm due for a vacation about now, but I'll wait until October when I ride in the Seagull Century to get a nice long vacation. Long for me is only one week, LOL. I haven't been off work since the early part of May.
So far this year, the "Screened In Porch" was mostly in demand. We've done three this year and we're starting on a new one currently in Takoma Park, MD. Please visit our Outdoor Structures section to view all of our screen porch additions. Now that things have settled down a little bit, I'm able to do some of the things that I couldn't due because I was so busy. I'm really glad to be back to doing 2 to 3 jobs at a time, instead of 5 to 6.. Earlier this year we were definitely consumed with more work than we could handle, but we eventually handled it, we had no choice. Also in this business you never stop learning, and this spring and summer was something I'll never forget. Next year, I'll take more time off for myself, so I can enjoy life more, which will give me more appreciation of what i love to do, want to do and the direction I would like to go. I'm not getting any younger, although I still look young, LOL! I need to focus on the future of the company, myself and life. I've been in business for over 26 years, and one thing is definitely true, is that you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. That's a true statement. I guess I've done something right in order to be around for all of those years, but sometimes mistakes are made. I'm not perfect, just like any other human. I make mistakes, but in this business, mistakes can be costly and severe. I think through the 26 years in business, I've made three mistakes. Now that's not bad for 26 years a person may say, but depending on what the mistake was. Estimating a project can make or break you. One mistake on that, and you loose not only money, but it throws the entire company off, and it's a trickling affect, and it takes time to regroup and get back on track. Things happen in life, and you live and learn, but it's how you react, and bounce back, that makes a person, and company stronger. Another lesson in Business 101.
No job too big or to small for us here at P. L. Johnson Construction, Inc., as you can see with this bathroom remodel project in Mt. Pleasant DC. Before and After Pictures
Oh what a year it has been. Time just flew right on by. This has been a Great Year for P. L. Johnson Construction, Inc. Many challenges, which I always like because it keeps me on my toes. Many opportunities, and many projects. It's been great, but the year is almost complete, and I just want to thank all of the people who have contributed to PLJC, Inc., in making this a Great Year! I have some new things that will be in effect in the new year, and some things we're getting rid of. So I'm really looking for to 2022. So please have a safe and prosperous New Year.
Well it's a little less than a month left in the summer officially, and we've been working hard during this summer. This has been one of the busiest years and summer for us since I started the business back in 1997. I'm very happy for all of the projects that we have and I continue to thank God for giving me the opportunity to help create, remodel and build homes that people can enjoy for the rest of their lives.
My job isn't easy, and being organized and on top of my game (my basketball reference) is one of the things I cherish the most. In this business, things don't always go according to plans, and you have to adjust, improvise, and make it work. I've encountered all sorts adjustments during my career in this business, and I'll continue to encounter even more, especially since we have more business this year. I really enjoy the work that I do, and I look forward to all of the new possibilities that will come my way. This is actually the first time that I had to hire additional workers since back in 2007. As we grow somewhat as a company, we still remain personal with our clients. That personalization touch, I really like, because we treat each customer as a life long client, not just a project to complete. Have a great rest of the summer! New Project in DC! A Row House Renovation in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of DC. First floor and basement renovation. Demo is underway. I'll have more pictures to you soon. After over a year of hard work and a dislocated knee that popped back in socket, and working every single weekend, and sometimes after work. I finally finished my "Sunroom Cabin Addition" at my house. I designed this addition and also designed my pool table room addition I did some years back. I tell you, it was a true labor of love for this room. Also, I'll never do another addition by myself again, because it was truly very hard work, and I'm not 30 years old anymore, but I prevailed and the end result I'm very pleased with.
